Default Converting XP Home to Pro - 10-02-2008, 02:36 PM

I just converted my XP Home to XP Pro without reinstalling. It only takes about 5 minutes. I followed the directions from the following guides:

Convert XP Home to Pro Without Reinstalling
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/1 ... nstalling/

Enabling Remote Desktop in XP Home
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/1 ... e-edition/

Here are the two files needed described in the articles:
devcon.zip[/attachment:305vn438]

enable_tsxp.zip[/attachment:305vn438]

The remote tab is missing from the XP Pro screenshot. But I can confirm that RDP into my Dell Mini works. I was even able to change the port from 3389 to 3392 in the registry.

You lose out on the 'fresh install' goodness that way though. Plus some of us need fully legit copies of all of our OS/software for business purposes.

It's still legit. It's just more of a registry hack to enable things that are already present yet turned off by default in XP Home. You can hit F8 at boot up and it still says XP Home. Also, I just went through Microsoft's latest WGA and it passed. So even to the Microsoft Servers, it registers as XP Home.

Windows Media Center has Remote Desktop already loaded. In fact isn't Media Center just XP Pro but with the Media Center added in? Would the Mini run Media Center? I have Media Center loaded on all of my Desktops and I remote in to one of them which is my email server for my cell phone.
