Default Pixel Qi's LED backlit ePaper, use a laptop outdoors! - 05-28-2009, 04:06 PM

I admit that I do love the near perfect color rendition of the new Dells, but I'm going to be honest, I have a e1705 laptop, therefore I got a Mini 9 so I can actually.. finally have a true laptop, but unfortunately the LED backlights still aren't bright enough to take outdoors as some people said, not like this at least:
First look at Pixel Qi’s outdoor readable screens

Pixel Qi (the people that did that ugly OLPC thing for education across the world) is working on ePaper with color even, and after seeing that little preview of a hacked up acer with their most recent screen, I think I am 100% willing to give up my awesome color rendition for use outdoors, and to probably get another hour out of my batter life, this.. is absolutely stunning, when can I buy!

That's cool. ... I want.

Received lowest quality mini 9 with 512 megs RAM, 4 GB SSD. Additions:
-4 GB SSD [2 GB SD Card: getting 16 GB SDHC]
Sold for $180 so I could buy Mini 10, XP/Ubuntu, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM, 1366x768 screen, 6-cell for $260.
[Extra screen space IS AMAZING, as is having a working keyboard]

Here's a demo of Dell Mini 10v running Pixel Qi and OS X:

It's pretty awesome. Works amazing outdoors, but not much battery saving since you can't turn it off completely.
