Default Dell Mini 9 won't switch on!!!! Brand New - 03-12-2009, 09:06 AM

Hi, I got my Dell mini 9 yesterday, I plugged it in to charge and the single white 'power on' light came on, I pressed the on button and nothing happened!! I held it down and it beeped at me 8 times. There is no display but when you unplug the power cable the display flashes. What is wrong???

Turn it over and remove the cover that has only 2 screws.

Check to see if your memory has become unseated and reseat.

I don't know the post codes.

Maybe someone could list (post ) them

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my RAM to 2GB and it wasn't seated correctly. Try reseating your RAM as Stimuli suggested and see if that fixes the problem. If not, since it's a brand new unit, you might want to call Dell since it might be defective.

I'm having the same problem. I don't even get a light when it is plugged in and supposedly charging. If I take the battery out and put it back in I get the power light to flash and the amber battery light flashes when I hold and release the power button but nothing else happens. No beeps. I re-seated the memory and still nothing. Completely dead.

Anything else to try before calling Dell?

Any updates on this?

I have the same issue on my one month old Mini 9, which is incredibly frustrating - could be anything from the power cord to the battery or something more serious.

If the white LED comes on it's not likely to be power-related. More likely RAM or a motherboard failure. Call Dell support.

Here's a picture of the part:

D169H - Power daughter board and cable

Trying to pull it out I fry the metallic contacts, and all (board and attached cable) must be replaced.
