Default Install from USB issue - 04-12-2011, 02:35 PM

Trying to set up my Mini 9 with Snow Leopard, but can't get the installation to boot from my USB drives, either a stick or an external HDD. I have done other Hackintoshes before, so I thought this would be pretty easy, and I have been carefully following each step in the guides.

When I direct it to boot from my USB stick or HDD, I get a blinking cursor at the top of the screen, and no activity [I have given it up to 30 minutes in some cases to make sure I wasn't "jumping the gun"]

  • I have set, and checked, the BIOS options as described in the Guides.
  • I have copied the Snow Leopard CD to USB with both GUID and MBR formats.
  • I am using Netbook Bootmaker 0.84 after copying over the Snow Leopard CD to USB. (One thing to note there, it only seems to take a few seconds for NBM to work through the USB drive, rather than "a minute" as described in some guides - does this signify an issue?)
  • I have also tried changing some of the BIOS options for Bluetooth, USB Wake, and USB Legacy - does not seem to make a difference.
I know there are some USB sticks/drives that don't seem to work for install, but before I run out to get a new one I wanted to see if there was anything I was missing, or if anyone could recommend a mfgr/type that they have used that works.

The mini 9 specs are:

Bios A06
2 GB RAM
32 GB SSD
Running Windows XP at the moment

Let me know if there is anything I have missed in reading the forums or the Install Guides/Notes, and thanks for any recommendations on a USB stick that has worked for you.

Thanks - MB

Simple as using Netbook Bootmaker 0.83, instead of 0.84....
