Default 10.6.2 Combo OR Update? - 11-18-2009, 02:49 PM

Should I install the Combo or update?

I downloaded the combo but it will not install. Says The volume does not meet the requirements. I have 104 gb free??

I've already installed RC4. Should I try the regular update??

Thanks

I had the exact same problem with the combo; kind of a shocker to see that frame come-up, huh? I went to "software update" and it forced the install; I had formatted correctly, installed 10.6.1 correctly, and I have 1/2TB space on my 10V. Normally I prefer the combo updates as it gives me the perception of having some control over the process (which, of course, is ridiculous).

Once "software update" did its magic, it booted and ran like a champ. Give it a try.

Let me know how it works for you . . . I think you and I are not the only two with this issue. Thanks.

It worked!

I ran RC4. then did searched for software updates. it updated 3 things and I restarted. Then re-ran RC4 and restarted.

Everything is working fine ---- but honestly aside from the track pad working better I have no clue what the update did or if it was the "update" or the "combo"

About this Mac says 10.6.2, so thats a good thing!

Thanks for the tip.

Did you download the combo OSX6.2 staff pack? or even combo sever update. easy mistake to make i do it all the time, and get the unsupported volume error.

I always update independently series updates rather than systems update letting that do that for me. as the guy above says combo updates are the best way to ensure previous fixes are carried through in SL. but that may just be a misguided thought.

Apple give out a brief description of the issues addressed in each series update, on the relevant series download page..

if you let Software do that for you and you had already 6.1 then it would have just layered the straight (un-combined) 6.2 for you.

Did someone say the trackpad works better in RC4 vs. RC3?

It seems that Snow Leopard is more compatible with the Software Update process than Leopard was. I actually used Software Update to update from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 instead of the usual Combo Update process. Just make sure to install the bootloader from NetbookInstaller (or NetbookBootMaker) 0.8.3 RC4 or later BEFORE you update.

I'm going to move the thread to the FAQ section since this doesn't seem to be well known yet.
