The Adamo base model, Admire, just dropped to $999!

Kinda makes you want it doesn't it?. It's soo pretty

Problem is, it is all design and almost no guts. That and it like the Air, suffers from being a 13 inch laptop with no dvd/cd disk drive. Kiss of Death! People expect a laptop that big to be full featured. At least the Air had the Apple fanboy base to support it somewhat. The target audience is pretty niche too. If I'm going to accept no DVD drive then I want to have increased portability as the trade off.
I suspect it is being EOL'ed. Discontinued! Finished!
I think it is being replaced with the Dell Vostro V13" model and that model is even lower priced but has similar specs and no DVD drive which will kill it too eventually.. why oh why can't they build this as a 10 inch netbook???
This would make a killer hackintosh project though! Too bad it won't happen because the Intel 4500HD graphics set was never an option with Apple Macs.

PS I did find a netbook that has the same styling in a 10inch form. It's the Nokia 3g but at $599 it's a bit pricey considering it does not have an SSD at that price.

Yeah - the guts are what would be expected in a unit that thin though. The V13 has no backlit keyboard, which is a must for me. Often my computing sessions happen after work when it's dark outside and only my table lamp on. If I wasn't getting the Alienware M11x, this would be my second choice.

Cheers,
Charlie

I just ordered Adamo Admire. I have no use for a cd/dvd drive so I am a fan of netbooks and thin laptops so I thought I would give the adamo a try. I like the idea of having a backlit keyboard.

without receiving the product yet, the pros to me were the hd screen w/webcam, backlit keyboard, SSD and style/size.

Its tempting I might just bite yet....
My main gripe is that the battery is not easily replaceable. Getting a repacement battery in the future might be a problem. At least it has 4500hd series graphics.
I have an M1330 so I'm used to the 13 inch size but also I have the DVD drive for watching movies.. It this could have been a hackintosh project I would bite on it for sure. I did google it and found some disassembly pictures that show it has a nice assortment of mini pci-e slots. Geek Pr0n for sure- must not look!
But it's soo shiny and pretty.

I also just read that the RAM is soldered on, so you can't upgrade the Admire to 4GB. You have to shell out another $500+ to get 4GB RAM. And a bigger SSD.

Wow, that kills all the good stuff I had to say about it.

Cheers,
Charlie

Dell Adamo Teardown - Page 3 - iFixit

Code:
The top of the motherboard. You can clearly see the 2 GB 800MHz DDR3 memory in the center of the board. Don't plan on buying the low-end machine and upgrading your RAM later - it's not going to happen.
