Default Mcafee help please. - 02-18-2009, 07:20 PM

I don't know if this is the right area for this but here goes. I have the 30 day free trial of mcafee and its been about 9 day since i got my mini 9 so i don't think the free trial is up, but it says my computer is not fully protected and it says the detection signature file is between 8 and 29 days old. when I press fix it loads for a second then does nothing. How do I fix it so my computer is fully protected. mind you i am not that computer savvy.

Uninstall McAfee which is worthless anyway. Install a good quality security package such as Norton Internet Security, Norton 360, AVG Free or NOD32.

That happened to me when my Mini was about a week old. I had been planning to dump McAfee anyway (just hadn't gotten around to it yet), so I didn't try very hard to fix it. Honestly, my computer runs a LOT faster now that it's gone. I would recommend replacing it with some form of Norton (if you're willing to pay) or a freebie like AVG or Avast. I'm running Avast and it seems to work pretty well - the system performance is not dragging at all.

There are a bunch of threads on which AV program to choose floating around this forum. Here's a link to one of them:

Hope this helps!

I second the AVG vote, use it on my mini, laptop and PC. Works fine and never had a problem since i started using about 5 years ago!

I did some research before I decided and went with avast home edition free. I was gonna go with AVG but i kept reading that it isn't what it used to be etc etc...... since i added it Ive had no problems to report. I'm actually able to watch the 480p videos on hulu without it being choppy, unlike when i had the mcafee installed.
