Default please please help - 12-30-2010, 10:22 PM

[QUOTE=AlixanderMcFly;177553]Voodoo worked like a charm for sound. Now fully working. I also ran software update for the mac ignoring the 10.6.5 update and although it crashed and made me reboot the system when i turned it back on I know have bluetooth working and touchscreen w multitouch. The touchscreen however is badly calibrated and I can't work out how to calibrate it. Anyone know how to solve this issue? and are there any decent control overlays like in windows 7 (right click, gestures, scrolling etc.)

-Boot Ubuntu live-USB (used the netbook version but that shouldn't matter)
-Format your free disk space
-IMPORTANT : when asked where to install grub bootloader, don't use the default location (MBR) but your main Linux partition (probably /dev/sda4 but you'd better check). If you don't change this setting it will overwrite chameleon, and you'll have to either reinstall it or get grub to boot OS X (which I hear is possible, but dunno how).
-Install, and then you're done.

When you boot your computer you can use Linux by holding the SHIFT button, which will make chameleon show you all bootables partitions, then choose your Linux one. This will actually boot grub which will then allow you to boot Linux. You can also set grub to auto-boot your basic Linux setup without showing the boot-mode choosing screen, so when chameleon loads grub you don't have anything to do.
And it works like a charm. Thank you very much! At least I now have a seperate operating system to save my OSX partition if anything screws up in the future...

I found this fairly tricky to get my head round but i followed this process, obviously change the size of the primary partition size to match that of your hdd. The brackets do not need to be typed.

"To install Windows 7 on GPT is simple; while installing from windows 7 DVD, and you get to the segment that you can create or delete partitions press "shift+F10" this will open a command prompt and you can use diskpart to convert to GPT"

Type: DiskPart (start Disk Partition tool)
Type: List Disk
Type: Select Disk 0 (select the main HD)
Type: Clean (clean all files from it)
Type: Convert GPT (setup GUID Partition Table)
Type: Create Partition EFI Size=200 (Win7 EFI Boot Partition)
Type: Create Partition Primary Size=40000 (Mac OSX Partition)
Type: Create Partition Primary Size=40000 (MS Win7 Partition)
Type: List Partition (show HD partitions)
Type: Select Partition 3 (MS Win7 Partition)
Type: Format FS=NTFS Quick (format it as NTFS)
Type: Exit (exit Disk Partition tool)

At this point, i'm fairly sure windows would not install on any of my partitions. I rebooted and then setup the macosx install. Then went back afterwards and installed Windows 7.

EDIT: Oh and you will need a new copy of Windows 7 as I found it impossible to restore the Dell copy. If this is an issue I'm sure you can find a site where the bluetooth fairy can send it to your desktop.

Default Dell duo os x - 01-04-2011, 09:00 PM

This is amazing! I was wanting to upgrade my dell a90 hackintosh for a dell duo but I am not capable of of doing a osx install from scratch, I will get one ordered now that you have made a good start, please keep us posted!

I followed all the instructions in the above post but had to remove the appleACPIbatterymanagement kext to get it installed. This is located in the extensions.mkext on the installer usb stick.

I had to download the atheros WIFI_AR9285 kext to get wifi working.

Unfortunately, a few things still aren't working. Touchscreen works only as a click at this point, so i can point the mouse to an item on screen and double click the screen and it will launch it, but can't get the cursor to move.

Sound is still not working, no sign of bluetooth, camera works but unsure whether the mic on it works yet.
No video out, card reader or ethernet (but then there are no ports for those) and i am still trying to work out whether sleep is working or not.
But hey, a lot further along the line than I was 4 days ago when the installer kept crashing (due to the battery kext).

I attempted installing 10.6.5 combo update, but it looks like it replaces the battery kext, so unless someone can tell me how to unpack the package remove that kext and repack it, I am stuck on that one.

Any help or ideas to get it running fully please let me know!!

Please excuse my ignorance, but I need some help.

I have a 1012 (A07) and I'm trying to install OSX 10.6.3 on it using netbookinstaller 0.8.5pre. This is all done on Windows machines. This is what I did:

1) Made .iso image of retail OSX disk and wrote the image to a USB drive using diskimager
2) Wrote the NetbookBootLoader.img (in the folder \NetbookInstaller 0.8.5pre.app\Contents\Resources\BootmakerSupport\) to another USB drive using diskimager
3) Booted 1012 with both drives plugged in.
4) Screen pops up with with all drives
5) I pick the OSX install disk
6) Gray Apple logo comes up and then a screen saying I need to reboot the machine comes up, with a kernel panic message on the top line (panic(cpu 0 caller0x558271): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.3.12/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1389)

What am I missing?

Did you install the Voodoo sound kext mentioned earlier in the blog posts as this was a problem for me?
I have now got 10.6.6 installed now by removing the appleacpibattery.kext from the /extra root folder and updating normally. Unfortunately, whilst doing this i accidently wiped my win 7 partition and am now in the process of resetting everything. Whilst in 10.6.6 everything was working fully including bluetooth and touchscreen which had been working intermittently previously. However cannot get the touchscreen to calibrate, it is an eGALAX touchscreen but their calibrator tool is not working/detecting the screen... fairly stuck on that one.

The HD Crystal decoder is not really working as video is very stuttery even with the kext installed. Also stuck on this.....

Will update once i have everything working again.

Unsure about the processor thing, mine is slow when opening the apps folder for sure. I had to search google to find all the drivers and programs for the duo as the drivers etc aren't available on dells website yet. They are out there, when I find where I got them from i will post the link. Paint should be in the windows install and dell programs will be available but I don't use them... so google probably your best bet.

Finally got 10.6.6 on Dell duo ... Touch screen works all the time no Bluetooth ??? So I downloaded the kext for broadcom Bluetooth it stopped the touch screen and reset the g card to 1024 x 768 ... So booted back from USB stick installed the netbook installer from disk utility now back to normal ... All we need is a something that makes Osx realize there's a dual core processor in there .. Will speed it up .... And calibration tool for touchscreen then we'd have the first touc screen mac ... Class
