One of the tweaks listed there changes the default IO scheduler to "noop" (NO OPeration), a scheduler that doesn't do anything. For SSDs, I prefer the "deadline" scheduler myself.

He disables Firefox's disk cache and offline storage, a reasonable choice on a small, slow SSD.

Another tweak sets up several write-heavy directories as RAM disks. I don't like setting my log file dirs as RAM disks, 'cause I might want to read old logs, but pointing them to a RAM disk should improve performance. I do like putting "/tmp" on a RAM disk (that's a tweak I perform on all my PCs).

I should probably put a post together listing some of the tweaks I use on my Mini 9.

need help I had an dell mini9 running stock dell ubuntu 8.04 which I decided to install unr 10.04 and now wiresless card not recodgnized and can't hard wire to internet either any suggestions

What I did: with a wired internet connection, system/administration/peripherals drivers and choose the Broadcom STA driver.
I suppose these are the good commands in english (in french: système/administration/pilotes de périphériques)
