Default ideas for recovering from panic if drive is accessible from another partition - 05-03-2011, 03:18 AM

I had spent so much time setting up a tri-boot on my 10v over a year ago (Windows XP, OS X 10.6.2, and Ubuntu 9.1) that I avoided upgrading OS X lest it should disturb the setup. But today, I decided to give 10.6.7 a try and, instead of diligently doing my research - which I should've done - I goofed and just ok'ed the update dialog.

Now my OS X goes into the panic screen.

I can still see my OS X drive from the Linux partition and I'm wondering if there is something I can fiddle with that will help fix the panic issue without destroying the data. This may be a bit too much to hope for but if anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I've found that if you change the bios settings to USB and Removable media first with HDD third and do not plug a usb drive in it boots properly from kernel panic. Then run the correct NBI 12351 to rectify it.

I just tried changing the settings to have USB and removable media first and second but it still goes into panic mode. I wonder if the tri-boot (chameleon) is a factor...?

I'm holding the shift key down just before. The apple logo (and just after selecting OS X from the chameleon menu) but it still goes into the panic screen.
