Hi,

My Dell Mini 10V Hackintosh is still operational . I did have to reinstall from the ground up about two years ago. I replaced the motherboard too -at some point

I'm thinking of installing an SSD - it's always been a little slow to boot.

Can anyone suggest software that will successfully clone my existing hard drive without screwing up it's 4 partitions. Is it safe to assume that most cloning software will not balk at a mix of Fat32/Guid partitions ?

kinston for example have software that clone the intire HDD to the SSD.
you do need to defragment everything though.

I have a Kingston SSDnow 120GB in my Mini 1012, and it significantly speeds up the boot time, as well as opening applications and other stuff. Not as fast as you would get in a modern system, but better than HDD speeds.

I recommend a clean install, personally. Experience tells me that backing up important data and starting fresh is always the best bet.

I thought of that , but considering the hoops I had to jump thru to get the triple boot to install and work , I would prefer to do a clone straight operation.

I'll investigate a bit more.

Anybody used the Easeus HD software ?

The Easus software would not work for a 1 to 1 physical drive clone. It allowed only logical drives to be cloned, in my case.

Also tried carbon copy clone. no good - it saw my SSD drive as readonly. That may have been due to using a Seagate USB to SATA adaptor ?

In the end a friend had a copy of EZ Gig software designed for cloning to SSD drives. It came with a USB/SATA connector cable. I used it for a disk to disk clone, and it worked to a point.
I've fitted a 240Gig SSD by Silicon-Power.com. Speed is very good .

The XP and OSX are working perfectly, but the Ubuntu OS will not boot. It stops with a flashing cursor in the top left corner of the screen.


Now i remember having that condition before and I think re-running Netbookinstaller may have solved it. Any ideas ?

Hmmm............. Netbookinstaller did not fix it

I had to re-installed Ubuntu and now all is well again.
Much faster to boot up for XP and Ubuntu.
OSX still takes an appreciable time to boot - but is much faster then it was.
So an SSD is worth the effort
