Default Re-use mini9 ssd for my PC - 05-10-2011, 08:55 AM

I have discovered the adapter below.
Is it possible to use my unused SSD for my PC's main booting disk?
MP2S*(mPCIe SSD to PATA / SATA adapter ver1.0b)

Sounds promising for running a Mini 9 SSD in a desktop, but I'm not sure it'll work.

Also, your desktop has IDE/PATA right? 'Cause it's becoming uncommon.

Mini 1012 | SSD | Intel 6200 Wifi | Ubuntu 11.10 64bit

The site claims it should work, but if you check the compatibility chart, it offers a PATA interface only for the Mini 9 SSDs. I don't think it's worthwhile - the performance of even the best MiniPCIe SSDs is lsackluster compared to mainstream 2.5" models.

well, my 1st question is WHY?.....I guess it depends on the size of the SSD, if its only an 8GB I wouldnt bother, the adapter is like $15 plus shipping and you can get a 8gb USB flash for about the same price with no shipping at Bestbuy or Staples and even if its 32gb you can get much larger hard drives for not too much more money....the only logical thing that I might do if I were you is to use the SSD to load your OS, that would speed up boot time tremendously and use your existing hard drive in the PC for all your data...that I could see doing....but just to use the SSD for additional space doesnt really seem like its worth the time or money for such a small amount of drive space you will gain..just my 0.02
