This forum specializes in the Dell Mini and Streak products, not general Dell laptops. But I can tell you that just because there's a SIM slot, that doesn't mean there's a 3G card inside. Do you know if your laptop has the 3G card? Otherwise the SIM slot is just a hole in the case.

Hi Meditel. Many Dell laptop systems have a slot for a sim card if WWAN connection was an option on the system. That does not mean Dell installed the WWAN card and antennas necessary to get WWAN connection. You must check and make sure your laptop has a WWAN card and antennas installed inside first.

Check your device list and see if a WWAN 3g card is listed.

It is very likely that your laptop has no 3G card installed. The hole in the case is there for all units, whether or not the card is present. You can insert your SIM but it doesn't connect to anything.
