seems vista is working great on my 9, wondered if anyone who had vista had come up with a reason to bother going to win7?

Well I was running Vista Ultimate SP2 on my mini - fitted with 16gig std SSD - after everything was done - and it was a major pain to get SP2 onto this unit with enough room to play.

Vista SP2 = 11 gig installed space Win 7 = 9 gig (7600 RTM) installed space. I was actually surprised with how well Vista ran. win 7 to me is about the same speed as the Vista installation. Both versions are the Ultimate so I'm comparing apples so to speak. I prefer the win 7 mainly because of the extra space on the SSD. Yes you can vlite but I just went for the normal installation.

windows 7 is a bit speedier with more eye candy on. altho i'm starting to ask myself the same question as we get closer. i ran the RC for a bit and ended up going back to vista sp2. i'm sure i'll at least give windows 7 final a try tho, it does have some new tweaks that are nice. i've heard it runs pretty slick on the 9s and 10s as well.

I think you will find that the 'system overheads' are a lot less on Windows 7 than they are with Vista, and that there is a lot less going on 'behind the scenes' as it were.

A relatively low powed netbook, such as the Dell Mini, should therefore feel that much more responsive... and hopefully be more reliable, and far less prone to 'crashes' etc. when running Windows 7.

shoot i have the dell mini 10 with 2gb ram and vista runs perfect, i dont see the need to change over to 7 but thats hey its your computer X_X

Here's a reason to go Windows 7.

Early Saturday morning, BitDefender released an accidental update to 64 bit systems that effectively put any .dll or .exe file it came in contact with into quarantine. The lucky users (like me) quickly realized something was up, disabled the 'auto-protect' and while waiting for BD to come up with a good fix, went about restoring our quarantined files back to where they belonged...

...except, Windows 7 realized that the files were missing and had already replaced them.

The people who were worse off but 7 users (BitDefender essentially cannibalized their systems) were in many cases able to have 7 detect on startup that there was major system issues and offer to repair it, or restore back to an earlier point.

Vista and XP wouldn't do that.

7 though is everything that Vista should have been - intuitive, fast, and easy to use. Try it - you'll love it!
