Default Dell Mini 9 - Upgrading from 10.6.3 - 03-13-2011, 06:53 PM

Hey all,

I'm currently running OSX 10.6.3 and have netbookInstaller 0.8.4 RC1 installed

Everything is working fine, and I just upgraded to 2GB RAM so the netbook is pretty speedy now.

I read a while back about issues when upgrading past 10.6.3 but the netbook keeps bugging me about updates, is it possible to install the updates and go to the latest OSX revision..?

Will I need to update netbookInstaller first? I notice there is a 0.8.5 up on google code but its a beta, it is ok to use?

As I said the netbook is running pretty sweet so I'm not overly concerned about updating. I'd like to update of course, so if there are no issues and its just a case of updating nbi and then running the updates then I will, but if there are issues and the possibiliy of a dead netbook I will just leave it for now...

Any advice appreciated

Don't use the 0.8.5 on a mini 9 that is working, it will crash it.

If you decide to update, use the version of NBI in this thread-

Follow those instructions, but you can go ahead and go straight to 10.6.6, either by using Software Update, or by downloading the Combo Update directly from Apple's site.

This version of NBI needs to be run before you do the update, and after you finish the update and re-boot, upon re-start instead of the regular Apple on the gray screen you will see the NBI logo as it is now a semi-automated process. It may take as long as 20 minutes for NBi to finish, so don't get frustrated and shut down the mini thinking it is hung.

When NBI is finished doing it's thing, the mini will again re-boot, ending up at your normal desktop.

Updating past 10.6.3 means you will most likely loose your audio out, and definitely will loose your mic. Akki's fix will fix it.

I just replaced the kexts and did update extra and mine works fine.

Quick update: I got the NBI listed above and installed it, did software update, restarted and got the NBI screen and everything is fine

Updated to 10.6.7 flawlessly and I still have audio!

Many thanks
