Hi,
After many days of frustration and failed attempts, I FINALLY got Snow Leopard 10.6.7 to install on my Dell Mini 9 using netbookinstaller 0.8.5 pre. however, It boots up fine, goes through the gray apple screen and the desktop wallpaper appears and then I get the SSBOD
So far, I have repaired permissions, booted in safe mode, and run fsck -f. None of it has helped. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Super desperate here!

Did you do your install with 0.8.5 pre, or did you just run it in order to do the update?

I tried it on my spare mini 9 back when it came out and it never would finish booting to the desktop after that. It would stop on a blue screen and not progress any further.

I ended up doing a fresh install and used NBI 351 special.

Yes I used 0.8.5 pre to install. What is 351 special?

It's the version that was modified to allow us to update to 10.6.4 originally, but it has worked up to 10.6.7, so far.

I set mine up using a 10.6.0 disc back when SL first came out and NBI version 0.8.3, I think, too long ago to remember.

Anyway, I've been meaning to get a 10.6.3 disc and see if I could get the NBI 0.8.5 pre to work on the spare mini 9, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

When I tried to do a fresh install with NBI 10.6.5 pre and the 10.6.0 disc I got the same blue screen. I had to go back and do an install with an older version of NBI, then update to 10.6.7 using the special version.

so I should reinstall 10.6 using an older version, say 0.8.3, and then update to 10.6.7 using the special version?

This is not correct. The 351 special only works up to 10.6.6.

I got the dead pre boot Gray Screen from upgrading from 10.6.3 Install DVD to 10.6.7. (Following exactly the same steps as outlined elsewhere in this forum). I had to reinstall 10.6.3 and then applied 10.6.6 (using the same steps). And I got it working up to 10.6.6 now.

I will probably skip x.7 now,and go straight to x.8 (since the x.8 will be last update for SL)

You are incorrect. It works with 10.6.7

I have 3 minis running 10.6.7 using that version of NBI.

10.6.8 will be irrelevant for the minis as it is just to prep for installing 10.7 and that won't run on our single core minis anyway.

And my Latitude 2100 is also running 10.6.7 using the same NBI. (Though I do have to disable the AppleIntelCPUManagement kext to avoid a KP.)

So that's at least two users who didn't have to stop at 10.6.6.

I thought we were talking about skipping the middle builds and jump from 10.6.0 or 10.6.3 directly to 10.6.7 using the NBI special. So I was just saying there was a difference between doing incremental upgrades and going straight for 10.6.7 .

I don't believe this upgrade path will work. You can only go from 10.6.0/3 to 10.6.6, and then use the same NBI special to upgrade once again to 10.6.7.

If you don't believe me, you can check other posts on this forum, a lot of people have failed to upgrade from retail DVD to 10.6.7 directly using NBI special. (Myself included)

I just rebuilt my Latty last week. Installed from 10.6.0 retail DVD copied to USB jump drive, then I performed a 10.6.7 combo update. Works perfectly, and the 2100 is pretty picky how the OS X intallation should be done.
