Default Battery Status Problem/Avg Battery Life? - 04-29-2010, 12:20 AM

Hey guys,

So I just received my Mini 10v today and installed OS X 10.6. Everything is running fine and I'm loving it, except one issue: the battery status.

The icon has been steadily decreasing from 100%, which is normal, but the estimated time remaining bounces around between 1hr 30 min to 2hr 40 min.

I figured this was just the nature of the hack...but I've been curious as to how much time I can run on one charge. I have a standard 3 cell battery and I was wondering for those of you with the same battery, how much time do you run for?

Also, curious as to see if anybody else has this battery status problem

what version NBI and Maker did you use? 10.6 OSX...any updates?

Mini 10v (Black) - BIOS A06 - Mac OS X 10.6.0 - 1GB RAM - 320GB HDD (7200 rpm) - NBM via USB - NBI (ending with 51) - Legacy Off

Had a happy 10.6.6 machine and updated to 10.6.7, but no love...maybe I'll do a vanilla install...but probably not.

NBI and Maker are both 0.8.4, but I haven't put any updates on 10.6 yet. Could that be the problem?

So the estimated time remaining is...estimated? I failed to see where the problem is. The time displayed on the battery menu is calculated from the current CPU load, so if you're watching a movie or something it should run out pretty fast.

My Dell 10v has a 3-cell battery as well, and I managed to get 2.5-3 hours surfing the web, or about 1 hour and a half watching online TV episodes in SD flash video format.

Yes, using 0.8.4 will give you funny battery usage because it changes the DSDT settings for OSX 10.6.3.

You could just use NBI 0.8.3 Final and update using the combo update to OSX 10.6.2 and sleep and battery icon should be normal.

Or just upgrade to OSX 10.6.3 combo because you are using 10.6....just make sure to make a backup of your "hack" so that if 10.6.3 doesn't work for you, you can revert to where you started.

Thanks R850R, how would I backup my current hack? (I'm kinda new at this sorry :/)

And tonyunreal, the estimated time remaining is hardly an estimate at all. The estimated time left is approximately the same at 98% and 56%

do you have a separate hard drive like an external? if so, just use time machine.

Have you tried running your battery down to 10% then fully recharging?

Trust me, you can even ask Meklort...the DSDT (settings) are different between 10.6.2 and 10.6.3, hence the different NBI kexts. I noticed funny battery meter function when I used 0.8.4RC while running 10.6.2 before the 10.6.3 release.

I believe the last time I changed the battery kext was in 0.8.3, although I could be wrong.

The dsdt *might* be different, but that's only because I think I restored some files in NBI from a previous version (the machine.plist), and forgot to reenable the DSDT patches (should be working in 0.8.3, and 0.8.4 RC1, but nor 0.8.4 pre).

Either way, I thought they were the same between 0.8.3 and 0.8.4. I also haven't used my mini in a few weeks... been focusing on other things, but I'll have a few cool new things (partially) ready in a couple of weeks, but they aren't specifically for the 9 or 10v. That and 10.6.4 will be supported (new kernel and 950 graphics kexts if anyone cares), should work out of the box with RC1, but I haven't tested it yet.
