Thumbs up Dell Mini 10v - A Not So Mini Pro Guide - 08-13-2012, 11:58 PM

Hello all!
As you can see, I'm pretty new to the MyDellMini forums. I've not got my 10v (yet) but I plan to get one pre-owned.

In the mean-time, I've collected loads of guides and compiled them into the 'Dell Mini 10v - A Not So Mini Pro Guide'.

Click here to go to the guide. Or, for a shortened link: http://tinyurl.com/10vproguide

I spent about an hour getting all of the guides for this, about half an hour retyping everything up, then about 5 minutes formatting and uploading it.

Any comments you have will be much appreciated. Everything you need is linked in there - NBI*351, NetbookBootMaker, Combo Updates, the whole lot.

I've put a 10.6.8 guide in there, but I recommend you use 10.6.6 instead.

It's got a guide for setting up OS X for the first time, as well as updating it, making apps smaller, disabling Software Update, fixing the touchpad (manually), scaling apps so that they fit, and an extremely long dual-boot guide. (As of Revision 1.1, I've also got a guide on Advanced Format.)

It was about 10 pages long in Word, so it is quite big.

So if you're new to the scene, check it out. I've made it as simple as possible - and because it's all compiled in one guide, I believe it's the easiest to follow.

Let me know if I should make any more changes, and I'll update the guide there and then.

Revision 1.1
- Fixed appearance issue
- Added contributors section
- Added guide on Advanced Format
- Added 'Last revised' text

Feel free to add this in in case anyone else wishes to use an Advanced Format drive and can't get the bootloader working.

No probs man, it just had me wondering what the heck was going for a couple of days and nobody else seemed to have used an AF drive in a mini 10v before.

Thank you for putting the guide together! I followed it to successfully install 10.6.6 on my 10v. It's working well with no issues thus far.

Thumbs up 10.6.8 combo update - 05-22-2013, 03:33 PM

I am unable to download these two--legacy kernel and sleep enabler. So I have not updated to 10.6.8. It is forbidden. What next?

[QUOTE=sivaram;198306]. Fantastic guide. I was able to install upto 10.6.8 as per the guide. After the last update, when I tried to login, it is not accepting the password which I used so far. How to by pass the password, or how to solve this issue.

Now unable to boot because of this one issue.

After installing 10.6.8 update, when tried to login, it is not accepting the password. Any help. Otherwise the installation was very smooth.
How to change the password in keychain access, before login, since it is not accepting the password.

My 10V has Leopard already installed (10.5.8) Do you know if it can be upgraded to 10.6 using the SL upgrade disk?
