And another thing, every time the OS loads it opens a tab with the file manage in it. Anyone else have this too? Any way to turn it off?

It's just a guess, but since you're running from the USB, the power settings might be powering down the USB when on battery and not waking up?

Password requirement is not a Chromium OS issue, but a google account/mail issue... In theory (although I think there's a Linux underlying OS), there's no local OS to log into, so the login password is a requirement of the google account which you're logging into after boot up.

The file manager is opening up after every logon because it's seeing your SSD c: drive. This will also happen if you install to the SSD and have an SDHC memory card in the slot. It happens to me.

If you remove the SSD, and boot from the USB with Chromium OS, the file manager should stop opening after logon.

A lot of fun running Chromium OS on the Dell Mini 9, but I'm now running Linux Mint 12 on my own Mini 9. Linux Mint 12 is more fun A lot more capable of other stuff (watching .avi movies, opening up other software, running gnome workspaces, etc.).

It's quite surprising how capable the Mini 9 is. It only needs the right software. I ran many Chrome tabs on 1 workspace (even a video stream on one of the tabs), System monitor in another workspace, Libre office on another workspace, and terminal on another workspace. Memory usage on the Linux Mint system monitor shows 750MB, although "both" CPU's show up 100% utilization. Cairo Dock was active... The only caveat is that Linux Mint 12 has a problem with the built-in broadcom wifi card, but my particular Mini 9 has an atheros wifi which I changed a while back.

Thanks for that helpful reply. I will just live with the file manager tab I think.

As for the standby issue, I was thinking the same as you as went hunting in the BIOS for any stanby power controls. I tried a couple of things but they didn't make any difference. Strangely it is ok as long as I plug the AC power back in before bringing it out of standby. Linux Mint sounds good but I have thr broadcom card so that rules that out unfortunately.

Let's hope Dell continue to develop this and iron out the last few little bugs.

Lastly does anyone know how to get Java working in the Chrome browser.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have recently installed the May 13 Chromium OS on my Dell Mini 9 (2gb ram, 32GB SSD) to boot from USB drive it seems to boot fine and wifi connects fine.

I have 2 issues I need to solve though and because, while I am a Windows PC expert (retired top HP tech agent), I am deer in the headlights with linux. So as you give me help if you will, be gentle with me and instruct me making no assumptions that I know anything about android OS's.

1) Aparently Chromium comes with its own specialized version of adobe flash player called pepperflash. It is supposed to be enabled by default in general for a Chromium installation. In my installation it shows "disabled" and when you go to plugins to enable it, flash is not even listed.

2) (and this 2nd issue has been limiting my ability to troubleshoot item 1) Because Android Market has been transitioned to Google Play in the Chromium OS, the only app installer is through Google Play and you cannot open or install and .apk files. There are .apk installers available through Google Play but my Dell Mini 9 is not detected as a supported device and Google Play help files state that if your device is not in the supported list you are out of luck.

Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I have one other issue that I may need help with as well. . . my 32gb Kingston mini PCIe SSD drive has slowed down to a crawl. It took 24hrs to install XP!!!
If I boot from the USB Chromium OS system performance is normal and fast. If I boot from the SSD it is the speed of my old 1985 circa Commodore 128. I dont get it and I dont know of any bootable utility that can reliably test an SSD.

Hi, I know it's a long time since anyone has posted on here, but, I'm looking for the May 13th chrome image, does anyone have it stashed away anywhere? The original link is now dead. I have found a chrome11.tar.gz file as an alternative but can't find a way of converting this into a usable .img as of yet. Not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. Googled the heck out of this but not managed to come up trumps yet. Cheers.

I have installed this version but have 2 issues

1) The trackpad pointer works but the buttons do not click. A mouse is required. Anyone know of any drivers to try?

2) I keep getting told that my chrome (browser) version is out of date and not supported which means I can't install some apps.
