I'm totally with you on that one.
I have done a very small amount of programming, enough to know just how hard it is to do what they do and appreciate the amount of knowledge they must have of the UNIX system.

The time I have available to "play" with computers will never allow me to get right under the skin like they do.

I'm going to make a start at this over Christmas.
from your experience of trying to get the files off dp1 I will start by installing it and getting at them that way.
I will post up my results as I go.

@Meltymac
You're right it's a crap first post bud I did it from my iPhone. Yes I am a Mac geek I have multiple hackintoshes and I will make it more clear when I get back. I already figured out how to install lion retail on it and I am running it right now. (I took the 10v on holiday haha) it just runs perfect and smooth and it's a lot faster than Snow leopard so be patienc I will make a video of it and maybe a tutorial. But just relaxe bro don't yell its a free timers forum.

I am just resigned to the fact that it's never going to happen. Maybe it's time we just looked into getting 10.6.8. running like a boss...

This is the 4th time I've seen someone claim they're gonna post a guide and/or video. I'm not so sure it's doable. It's more than a pesky 64bit finder switch. Then your continuously trying to strip the 64 bit code in upgrades, and which do you choose, and who's gonna spend all that time trying?

Jmacie, IMO the 10v has a heck of a time running windows 7 never mind OS X. I think 10.7 is a leap too far. Would it not be better just to get 10.6.8 running the best it can? I don't have the knowledge but wouldn't removing some needless kexts and the powerPC components of the OS help it to run faster? I used a program called xtrimmer to remove the powerPC code from most of the apps and it freed up 160mb of space. I noticed a slight speed difference and I guess any free space is a bonus. I have got 10.6.8 running quite smoothly. Only a few small niggles. The boot up time is about a minute. When watching films with it for a prolonged period it gets hot. When playing flash videos on Youtube they jerk and the poor thing feels like its going into meltdown. I cannot for the life of me get hibernate to work. Besides that it is all dandy. I would like to get it running a lot better than dandy though as i think the 10v has the potential. Anybody with the knowledge willing to help unlock that potential? I am willing to do the tutorial if they can.

I can't help with optimizing osx. I guess since single cores are obsolete that the optimizations are the next step. I can't get 10.6.8 to operate smoothly. I'm just waiting around and reading others experiences. I'm sure some tinkerers will make some advances, maybe even 10.7. It's sad that people say they use 10.7 on a single core and will write a guide or video, never to be heard from again. Why be so childish as to jerk others chains? I'll let you know if I get any good tips. Until full OSX runs on a tablet with full peripheral integration, there's still viability for my 10v!
