Default Best Windows 7 32-bit on 10v - 03-19-2013, 11:09 PM

So after saving a stock late model 10V from the computer graveyard at a job I went to last year (just needed a fresh O.S. install). I have been using it a lot since then and though it was time to give it an overhaul. New ram, battery, hard drive and even found its bluetooth adapter (didn't have one when i got it)

CPU N280 Atom
Screen 1024x600 WXGA LED backlight
Ram 2Gb pc2-6400 (up from the stock 1Gb)
HDD 500Gb 7200 rpm (from the 5400 160)
Battery 6 cell (had the 3 cell before)
Bluetooth option added

Now While I like Win XP Pro I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7. I have not bought any yet so I am just asking what variant seems to run the best.. I would rather avoid the strange limits of starter (like the locked background)
Looking around I see a lot of old post about the installing, asking about duel booting and so on but nothing that actuality goes over the pros and cons about each variant and how well they work on the 32-bit Atom N280.. Like will the functions of ultimate be wasted on a 32-bit system and consume to much resources but will basic be too limited next to XP Pro..

Sounds good to me so far.. How is the over all performance compared to Win XP Pro for what the Mini 10v can handle? I use this for work a lot and to watch movies on the go.. maybe some light games (Simcity 4, Freelancer with the Discovery mod etc..)

I find Win7 to be better than XP, but don't expect miracles. I think Home Premium (which I think is what Rich meant) is the best choice unless you really need all of the features of Ultimate.

Looks like Home Premium it is, As long as it has media center that can play the new recording file format so I can stop having to convert every show my desktop records to take it with me lol. And I'm guessing XP mode is of little to no use on such limited hardware anyway plus for anything else I do have 7 Ultimate on my desktop gaming rig

Win 7 Home Premium does have media center included. I use it for recording OTA TV shows, you do have to download & install AC3 Filter. The family pack was about $70 6 months ago if you can still find them.
