Default Installing MYSQL on OS X 10.6.4 ? - 08-01-2010, 10:36 PM

Should I be able to run Netbeans 6.9 + MySQL on a Dell 10V Hackintosh ?
NB runs but gives errors on startup of Ruby on Rails application.
Spec:SnowLeopard 10.6.4 , 2Gigs RAM.

I'm getting an error that tells me to install as follows: gem install mysql.
However I cannot seem to get it installed.
Quote:
ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.
This is the reason stated in terminal:

Quote:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb
mkmf.rb can't find header files for ruby at /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/ruby.h
MySQL has been reinstalled - seemed a normal install.
but will not run. Responds :
Quote:
command not found
Install of mysql seems to demand this line: (per various searches)

Quote:
sudo env ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386" gem install mysql -- --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/bin/mysql
Is ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386" appropriate for the Intel Atom ?

Struggling

-arch i386 is appropriate for Atom. I can't help with the rest.

Good

Thanks for that.

Essentially what I need immediately is to successfully get MySQL to function.

It gives me:

-bash: /............../mysql-5.5.0-m2-osx10.6-x86_64/bin/mysql: Bad CPU type in executable

Should I be using 32 bit or 64 bit version ? This seems to be 64 ?

Yes indeed - you have the x64 version which your Mini will not understand.

Thanks Steve.
I reinstalled mysql 32 bit successfully.

Then to install the gem mysql , I learned I had to install the optional components XCode from the SL DVD.

I did that and seem to have broken mysql again

round & round I go ..........but getting there
