Default Media Center Edition - 10-29-2008, 10:59 PM

Has anyone tried Media Center edition? I was wondering if it has a larger foot print than XP Home or XP Pro. Can I use the same drivers as full XP Home install? I know I will need the bluetooth hack driver but was curious if I could just download the rest from the Mini driver download page. Hope I didn't create a Newb search violation. Lol

It has been years since I've dealt with media center on any other basis than just using it, so forgive me if I'm wrong.

I remember having a hell of a time with tv tuners getting them to work with media center, but I think that is something specific to tuners. I assume most drivers will work otherwise as honestly media center is just an add in to xp home.

I think my media center install is about 800 mb bigger than my oem home install.

But the benefit of Media Center that few people know is that it has Remote Desktop. I was told it was built on XP Pro. I know for a fact that Remote Desktop works because I dial into my Desktop computer running Media Center through my Cell phone. I also have Vista home premium but am scared of the slow down over XP based OS's. So I can use all of the same drivers along with the blue tooth hacked driver right? I would like to make a usb drive folder with all the drivers in there. I assume the USB driver works right out of the gate right?

THey should work. It is XP Media Center, and the only media center specific drivers/hardware I've encountered were tv tuners

One last question. I Installed a fresh copy of Media Center and it's up and running. I forgot about the SD card reader and saved all of my drivers to it. I have to break out my USB card reader now. My question is do I have to do without Sleep mode or does that feature get added once I bring all of the drivers in? I have'nt had any time to mess with it since the fresh install. I tried to go into power properties and set the lid closed to sleep mode but there were no options other than "do nothing".

I got it running. After I loaded the drivers the hibernate and sleep choices showed up. I am still having a problem with one device in Hardware manager. It seems to be an unknown network device. I have'nt gotten bluetooth to work yet though so that could be it. Not sure what I am supposed to do with this bluetooth hack. I loaded the bluetooth driver off the Mini download site at Dell but I still don't have a Bluetooth Icon. Any thoughts?

Sleep/Hibernate are enabled by the ACPI functions exposed by the platform drivers.

Actually I figured out how to browse the driver disk and extract the exact drivers mentioned for the XP install. After that everything worked like a charm. I also just installed the Astray hack that now has the resolution problem fixed as well. I also tried remote desktop and was able to log into the mini with no problem. It works great. I like this OS better than XP Pro. I guess more people have not tried it because it's an OEM only OS. I purchased two Dell laptops with Media Center installed so I was able to install it on the Mini with no Key needed. Windows Dancer works pretty good on the Mini as well.

Would the media center edition allow me to connect to my xbox to play videos on my TV?
