Default Need someone to do a test for me. - 01-20-2010, 08:50 PM

My poor mini got left outside by mistake and it now won't boot. I've verified the SSD works, so i'm sure its either the motherboard or the battery. What I'd like to know is if the mini9 will boot without the battery in it. If so, then it must be the motherboard, if not then I guess I'll try a new battery first.

Will boot up fine with no battery fitted and the power plugged in.

Thanks for the quick reply. called dell, they no longer sell replacement MBs for it (Though it is only 1 year old). Now i need to find a reasonably priced MB. Dell wanted $459 for the motherboard for my $325 dell mini. Which ended up not making a difference because they no longer carry them.

Anyone have a Mini they want to sell with perhaps a busted screen?

Assuming it got wet, how long have you let it sit to dry out?

It sat out for a few days. I also took it apart and noticed corrosion on the MB due to the extended stay outside. I'm sure the MB is dead. the bad thing is I can't seem to find a MB to buy, so i'm looking at getting the Vostro Version from dell Business instead.

Keep checking Ebay. I occasionaly see a Mini-9 that has a broken screen or something that they are selling for parts. No guarantee of course.

Eww.. bad luck. Sometimes (although I don't think in this case), it can be good to put your wet/semi-wet electronics (turned off and battery out) into a pot of dry rice to suck up the moisture.

Although if there's corrosion, it's probably too late.

Keep checking ebay, craigslist and of course here. 150 - 180 shipped is still the going rate.

If youre thinking of replacing it, give the latitude 2100's a look. I'm glad I made the switch. 10.1 screen (Same resolution as your 9 but bigger pixels) and a touch pad with buttons *hooray* that do not make you want leave a 10/10v out in the rain.
