looks like you're trying this via Software Update.

go to apple website instead and search for 10.6.7 combo update.

cheers.

And make sure you get the other NBI ending in 351.

Is it pretty much agreed that 10.6.8 is not worth it? Hassle factor of installing 10.6.8 trumps better (?) security with the latest version of SL?

@Oscar - your sig shows 10.6.6 - is that where you stopped?

Thanks,
J

10.6.8 is more involved to install but there are guides here on this forum.
I followed post #90 in the following thread starting with 10.6.7
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...-thread-9.html
I have not had any problems with .8 but then .7 did everything I needed, I only upgraded for completeness sake.
Nice to see another diver here, and another Mike.
Dive safe.

"@Oscar - your sig shows 10.6.6 - is that where you stopped?"

yes. that's as far as i went, as the mini is strictly a hobby for me. when 10.6.7 came out, there were far too many failures being reported for my liking. so i've never even attempted it, even though i'm confident the information is available for me to get through it with little difficulty.

as far as 10.6.8, it doesn't actually support atom processors. so it's more involved to try to go that far, and it's really not necessary; imo. i think, really it would be too taxing on the mini anyway.

10.6.3 was stable for me; i've also seen posts where some users have preferred 10.6.0 for stability. 10.6.6 has also proven stable for my purposes with the added bonus of having access to the app store. but that's really the only reason you'd want to go that far, or up to .7--as far as i know.

cheers.

also; +1 on making sure you use NBI ... 351 for anything above 10.6.3

Thanks Oscar for the reply.
I guess I'd have to say the mini is a hobby for me too - our real Macs, the iMac and the MacBook Pro, are not. The mini is indespensible as our traveling "Mac" however.

I too have read of too many issues related to 10.6.8 to make it something I want to get into.

I'm thinking I may leave our currently-working-fine original 10v (though with occasional sound issues, but we have it set on mute so no matter) at 10.6.3 and do an install of 10.6.0 and then update to 6.6 or 6.7 on our new 10v. I'm concerned about security updates, but more important for us is a working mini! We are pretty conservative on the web when we use the mini and with Firefox as a browser with WOT and NoScript and AdBlock Plus, I feel somewhat secure.

Do you know if NBI ... 351 can be installed on 10.6.3 and not go to 10.6.4? Just thinking in case I decided stupidly on the road to update - and that would be titanically stupid! - and forgot to use the new NBI.

Thanks,
J

NBI 351 could be downloaded and installed on a 10.6.3 machine. Just stick it in the Applications folder.

There just isn't a NBM of the same version so you can't use it to update the installation USB thumb drive.

my understanding of this particular release (NBI .. 351 aka NBI special) is that nothing was added or really changed except for memory allocation -- i don't know the details; point being that it really is still the same as is used to install 10.6.3 -- so no harm will come from running it on that.

by your post i realize you know this already. but still, i would strongly caution against trying any updates while traveling especially if the mini is the only computer you have with you.

cheers
