Default 10.6.3 > 10.6.7 Software Update. What will happen? - 05-03-2011, 06:35 PM

I got my min with 10.6.3 on it. Everything works on it, sleep sound, all that stuff. I update my software, applications, stuff like that, but now its showing me the 10.6.7 combo update. If i ran it, would I totally screw myself? Ive looked around and am having trouble finding a definitive answer. If someone could give me a link or some insight, i would be very thankful

I installed 10.6.3 from the retail disc image, ran the 10.6.7 Combo Update, didn't let it reboot, ran NetbookInstaller ***351, then let it reboot, then ran NetbookInstaller again and it has been pretty fine for me.

Took a while to find it but here's the NetbookInstaller version that seems to give the best results, from Meklort's blog: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/863180/Netbo...212351.app.zip

These questions are for clarity really. So far I have had nothing but good luck transforming my Dell 10v into a Mac10v and I owe it all to the information on this site. Thanks to all.

I am currently running 10.6.3. NBI 0.8.4RC1 is what I used during 10.6.3 install and it is the current version in Applications.

I want to update to 10.6.7 using NBI*****51 if this is what is needed to do that.

Here's what I need to clarify. If there is a post/topic I missed somewhere, please point me there.

1. Do I navigate the internet to that NBI***51 zip file on my Mini10v running 10.6.3, unzip it and run it? Or do I use my Windows pc and save as image to usb like for initial install?

2. Will this replace NBI 0.8.4RC1 with NBI (blah, blah)351 on my 10v?

3. Do I simply go to Applications and click on NBI> Install?

I keep seeing that before I update to 10.6.7, I am supposed to run NBI, then do the update, then run NBI again before reboot? Is this correct?

This stuff always seems more difficult thinking about it than actually doing it once I get started.

If you click on the dropbox link for NBI******51 , it will download to your mini as a zip file. Click on the downloaded file and it will unzip and you can run it from there, or you can place it in Applications if you prefer.

I usually remove and replace NBI 0.8.4 RC1 in the Applications folder just so I don't run the wrong one by accident.

Once you have it on your mini, run it. Then download the combo-update package from Apple and run that. Then run NBI again before you allow the mini to re-boot from the update.

When your mini starts up you will see an NBI logo in place of the regular apple logo. NBI is running, don't do a hard restart thinking it has locked up, it can take 20-25 minutes before NBI finishes and the mini will re-boot again into 10.6.7.

underwhelmed, Do you mind me asking, how do you managed to get 10.6.8 working? I screwed up my install going to 10.6.8.

Got an endless reboot.

Eh, I had it sort of working, but it wasn't reliable. Half the time the screen would just stay blue and the OS would fail to complete loading.

I have since re-installed to 10.6.7 and forgot to update my signature.

I have 2 mini 9s and 1 10v running with no issues other than when you first boot you have to increase or decrease sound volume for it to start working. It is running just fine. on the mini 9s I never had the endless reboot issue but the 10v did and I used the legacy_kernel replacement and sleep_enabler.kext fixes. I am using the NBI *2351, always have and it has worked fine on all 10.6.x versions.

That's awesome, but 10.6.8 is really only useful if you are going to 10.7, so it wasn't worth me wasting anymore time with it.
