Default So you think all a90/910 lcd panels are equal? Think again. - 10-18-2009, 02:19 AM

I noticed that my display was super sharp compared to my friends mini, and the other two I own and I wondered why. I did some research and found that some minis or a90 in my case have an AUO lcd panel and some have LG, and there are others.

The AUO has a much sharper image and is brighter, but the viewing angle from the side is good but not half as good as other mini displays.

You can check in the device manager what you have, post your results. And your opinion if you notice a difference between yours and your friends. My friend was super happy with his display until he saw mine.

I hate to be a party pooper but some manuf displays I seen in minis are horrible compared to others. All are nice but some are superior. AUO is the best IMHO.

Just a thought.

No. But that's because we discussed the matter a while back.

That's the screen I have too. And I've been happy with it.

I also found a PDF spec sheet on the LG Philips LCD site, which seems to describe our screens.

Welcome to CMO - Chi Mei Optoelectronics

I wonder how that stands up compared to the AUO or LG.

This is an article I found, if Sony likes AUO and CMO for their under 32" displays, then they are prob comparable;

Sony to place LCD TV panel orders with AUO and CMO

DIGITIMES Research - quarterly shipments data

Compiled from outside sources, Taipei; Emily Chuang, DIGITIMES [Thursday 4 August 2005]

AU Optronics (AUO) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) have received LCD TV panel orders from Sony, according to the Taiwan-edition of the Chinese-language Apple Daily News.

AUO and CMO have been the main LCD TV panel suppliers for Sony and will respectively deliver more than 20,000 units to Sony early next year, the paper added. However, the procurement will only focus on TV panels sized less than 32-inches, the paper cited market sources as saying.

AUO declined to comment on the news, citing customer confidentiality, while Sony and CMO were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

In a July 20 article, AUO and CMO were said to have landed 32-inch (and smaller sizes) LCD TV panels orders from Samsung Electronics.

AUO and CMO are the only two Taiwan-based TFT LCD panel makers that supply TV panels to Sony at present, according to a Morgan Stanley report.

I assume that the LCD used depends on where the minis are made. It may be more expensive to order an LCD from somewhere further away from the factory for example. My mini 9 is Australian and has the LG screen.

Btw good find on those LCD specs

I doubt any of the Minis are made in Australia. Compal is the OEM and the assembly is, I think, in China. Like most manufacturers, they have multiple sources for LCD panels and you get whatever happens to be on the line that day. Same happens in LCD monitors, where panel variations are often quite noticeable.
