Default Can't restore 10.6.3 DVD to MBR partition - 12-29-2011, 12:43 AM

Trying to put 10.6.3 on a mini 9...I have a SL 10.6.3 install DVD. When I restore to a USB HD GUID, it makes a bootable install disk. But when I restore it to the same HD partitioned as MBR, It says "memory allocation error" near the end of the validation. All the files are there, But it doesn't look like a bootable disk in the finder. Startup window doesn't recognize it either. Is that normal? Netbook bootloader seemed to do its job.

Does the USB have to be formatted as MBR for the mini to boot from it?

Thank you from a noob

I always use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with GUID and haven't ever had an issue.

No problem.

I'll check back later to see how you progress.

It worked! Took a very long time to install but it did. Some things don't work yet, like camera, multi touch and sleep.
i think it's because I didn't run netbook install until after the welcome song woke me up. 'm going to try booting from the usb and running NBI again.

Thank you!

Yeah, boot from the USB and run NBI from the menu.

If you have any sleep issues afterwards, try disabling USB Legacy and Wake in the BIOS.

You will have a separate trackpad preference pane after running NBI to adjust 2 finger scroll, etc.

Congrats and have fun with your Hackintosh.

Got it ALL working good. Sleep fix took some digging. Next up... upgrade to 10.6.7 (not even going to attempt 10.6.8). I don't know how to do a software update without using Software Update. I have downloaded 10.6.7 combo from Apple.

You will need the NBI Special from the 10.6.4 Update thread.

Got it, installed it. easy enough... ran 10.6.4 NBI, ran the dmg from usb drive, ran nbi again, all is good. I have the sleep issue again. But I think I can do the same as before. This little thing rocks!

Thank you underwhelmed, I am overwhelmed. :-)
