Default Can't install win7...help? - 04-21-2009, 02:32 AM

I've tried the 4 steps to installing windows 7 over usb

did everything exactly as it was said, twice

i just got my supertalent 32 and 2gb ram
have it booting off the usb, but i get an error

"for realtek rtl8101e/8102e pci-e ethernet controller v1.08 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Missing operating system"


what am i doing wrong?

Sounds like the USB stick isn't bootable. Did you try it in another laptop or PC?

i put it in my pc and it works fine

can't seem to pinpoint the problem....

I had the exact same problem until I followed jhoff80's USB Stick Prep instructions. It would seem some USB sticks don't boot even after being formatted with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. I got the same errors until I did the following.

Start>Run> cmd
diskpart
list disk
select disk <n> (whichever corresponds to your usb from above)
clean
create partition primary
active
format quick fs=fat32
assign
exit

Takes like 30 seconds.
