Default Uses For Replaced 16GB PCI-E SSD - 01-18-2009, 09:04 PM

Anybody seen an external case for the stock 16 GB SSD that came with our mini?

I know the write speeds aren't that good, but it be nice to have a small external HDD.

Thanks

No such thing exists yet. It's not clear to me what the market for one would be.

Look in the for sale/wanted section of this forum - some people are willing to buy them.

Didn't I read somewhere that you can have two drives attached internally? I am not sure, but is it possible to somewhow jumper a second drive to a usb circuit internally? Just a thought.

It was suggested as a mod to wire up a second SSD (Runcore) through it's onboard USB port in this thread . The problem is that the main drive would have to be the STEC... unless you have 2 Runcores, and then you still have the problem of what to do with the STEC.

I would prefer a USB to Mini-PCIE adapter. I wonder those who split their external 3G broadband adapters plug in the STEC, what would happen.

How about selling the drive to someone in the For Sale discussion? I had an 8GB Mini and picked up a used 16GB SSD from there. You could use the cash to purchase a 16GB SDHC card or put it towards another Mini improvement.

I'm just going to sell mine via the "For Sale" section when the time comes.

Yeah, I am debating selling mine too. One thing that I am wondering though is that I bought an OEM version of windows xp
and installed on it however, if I sell it can I leave the windows on it and will it work on another machine since it was registered to me and it's OEM?? I don't think it can be registered to another machine. IF it will how to remove my registration? I am not much of a windows person nor am I at all proficient in it.

You could always put it back in your mini before you sell it then follow the standard windows install process on the mini up to the point where you can format the partition. Do the format then just turn the mini off before it actually gets into the process of copying windows files.
