Default Crucial m4 mSATA SSD Compatible? - 02-14-2013, 07:11 PM

The Super Talent SSD I installed into my dad's Dell Mini 9 was having read errors and I couldn't successfully reinstall Ubuntu due to an issue with installing the bootloader.

So I decided the SSD needs to be replaced (its about 4 years old now) and I purchased the Crucial m4 32GB SSD.

However, when I try to install Ubuntu from the USB liveCD it does not see the SSD whatsoever.

I emailed Crucial and the tech emailed me back that I need to initialize and format the SSD prior to use, but I'm thinking perhaps the SSD is not compatible with the Dell Mini 9.

Can anyone confirm this or at least tell me how to format the SSD?

Not compatible. The Mini 9 requires a PATA (not SATA) SSD with custom wiring to the connector. If the description does not say explicitly that it is for the Dell Mini 9, it isn't.
