Default Runcore vs other SSD? - 05-12-2009, 04:09 PM

Does anyone have experience with the Buffalo SHD-DI9M16G 16GB SSD?
Buffalo SHD-DI9M16G 16GB SSD for Dell Inspiron Mini 9 [ SHD-DI9M16G ] - -=- Conics.Net

I've seen runcore mentioned around here quite a bit. Is there a large difference between the two drives? If so, where is the best place to purchase runcore?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I thought about a SuperTalent SSD, But decided to go down the Runcore route as there was only 12 GBP difference between the two (32GB versions) here in the UK.

No personal experience of the Buffalo SSD, but normally avoid their stuff to having had problems with other items in the past.

I got my 32 Runcore from MyDigitalDirect.
Shipped from the US to the UK in 48hrs.
Great service from them.

Experience here with the Buffalo has been mixed, with at least one user reporting that the drive died shortly after receipt. This thread has performance comparisons. Most US users buy from MyDigitalDiscount (which is what Dave is referring to.)

Default Is runcore worth the $$$ - 05-12-2009, 09:13 PM

I have a 32 GB factory drive right now. The same runcore is well over $100. Is it really THAT MUCH BETTER?

Thanks for the responses!

Mine came with a 4gig so I'm upgrading out of necessity. I'd be fine with one that didn't perform quite as well but if there's a chance it'll die, I'd rather spend the money. That's comparing third party drives though not factory. I'd be happy with a factory SSD.

Not sure what country you are in-but I have seen OEM drives on Ebay for around $60 here in the states for the 32 gb and the cheapest runcore I have seen is at least twice that.

I upgraded from an 8GB.

Over here in the UK the prices are high and availibilty is rubbish.

32 GB Super Talent approx 86.00 GPB + Delivery
32 GB Runcore approx 110.00 GBP + Delivery, if you can find one in stock...!
Mine from MDD worked out at 92.00 GBP delivered.

No brainer for me.

Looks like the Buffalo prices will be some where in between the Runcore and ST over here.

from what i have read the buffalo has good speed (slightly slower than runcore), but the runcore has the usb port built so it is easier to image the runcores. whether or not that usb port is worth the extra $20ish i'm not sure.

I'm using the 32 Gb SSD from Crucial.com

have not had any problems yet, I also don't really see any slow down versus my friends runcore. especially for only 79 bucks
