My Samsung 830 series SSD is 7mm, but that went into my desktop not my Duo. I got the 64 gig one when it was on sell a few days ago for $97 with a free download of Batman AC.

Heya guys, just checking to see if this one would work. The site claims it does, and I use Crucial for all of my ram needs:

64GB, 2.5-inch Solid State Drive, upgrades for Dell Inspiron duo (1090) Netbook, CT1942497 from Crucial.com

Don't need much room since I do everything through the cloud. Kinda my thing at work (I cover mobile, browser-based gaming sometimes.)

Hi,

FYI I'm rocking a OCZ Agility 3 128GB. Kinda overkill speed-wise, as I barely get SATA II speeds, but it sure starts up fast, and got rid of the annoying vibration and noise from the disk (a deal-breaker for me). No issues installing, etc; had it for a month or so. Highly recommended.

There are 2 different sizes of the Crucial M4 be careful!
I installed a M4 in mine when Newegg had them on sell for $1/gig but it was the thicker one. It fits, sort of but not in the hdd holder nicely so I have it electrical taped into place.

Is the crucial stat that 9.5 MM thickness?

If so, do I need one that is around 7?

Thanks! I'm working on a project for a column about using it for everything. With the Win 8 preview I finally feel as though the thing is working as intended. I'd love to add on an SSD to make it even zippier.

The SanDisk Ultra I just installed is a whopping 9.91mm thick, and it fits just fine, though I didn't use the bracket.. I could have removed the cover (which most SSDs have), but that would have voided the warranty. I might take it out and replace the cover with the bracket, so that I don't have any troubles if i drop the duo on its right side, but either way will probably be fine.

If you want to use the hdd bracket and have it fit you need the 7mm one. Or just get the thicker and install it and use a small piece of electrical tape (that is what I did) or you can void the warranty of the SSD and take it out of the case.

The Samsung 830 is 7mm if I remember correctly and if I was not so lazy I could have took that out of my desktop and use the M4 in my desktop.

Just installed a Samsung 830 128GB into my wife's duo. It provides a noticeable boost in performance, everything is a little snappier. Thanks to the OP for putting the video together.

I did similar SSD upgrades (with runcore SSDs) to my Mini 9 last year and I found that the clips on connectors for the 3-4 ribbon cables on the Duo make me less hesitant to crack it open again for future upgrades.

I installed the "Intel WiFi Link 5100 - Network adapter - PCI Express Half Mini Card" in my Mini 9 back in August and it works great. While I had the Duo open it looked like it would fit nicely in here as well. It is my most likely next "upgrade" target as the current WiFi card seems slow (unless someone has a reason why I shouldn't do this).

I see why I wouldn't do this...

The current card in the Duo is a combo Wireless N/Bluetooth card. I'll have to find another combo card to replace it with.
I had a HP Envy 14 Beats Edition for a bit and it had a Intel Wifi card with a,b,g,n and Bluetooth built into it, It might be what you are looking for.

Will this support the 9.5mm tall drives or only 7mm, it is hard for newegg to specify the height of the drives, lol.
