Default Wireless broken in Dell Mini9? - 05-30-2014, 06:24 PM

Hi,

I love my mini9 and want to fix it if possible. Yesterday the wireless stopped working having always worked fine. It no longer appears as an option, only VPN connections or wired connections. Is this a hardware problem and can anyone direct me to the correct part to purchase? I've replaced the SSD before. It's on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I am not proficient in this system at all, I just like it as an interface.

Did your wireless work using 12.04 before?

Yes, it did work fine before. I've used this operating system for a year or so.

Will the Mini 9 connect to any public hot spots like the library, Starbucks etc. ?

I think the wireless card is gone. I have tried reinstalling the OS to no avail. All my other devices work fine on my home wireless. When I click the networking icon there is no longer any option for wi-fi.

If it does not connect to public hot spots then you may be correct about you WIFI card.

Function 2 turns on & off the wireless although it does nothing anymore on my Mini 9. You might check the BIOS advanced just to be sure that WLAN is enabled. Other than that, I would be shopping for a new card.

If you are interested, I might sell mine, it does not have a working battery or a web cam installed. It was the basic Mini 9. Bodhi Linux is installed on it currently.
