Default no more sound after update of ubuntu 10.4 - 10-11-2011, 06:30 PM

Hi! Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) worked perfectly on my dell mini9. In October, I updated Lucid and then, I have no more sound. I did the same thing on several computers of other brands and no problem. The issue is only with my dell mini9. Your goal is to bring back my sound Courage

You updated or a clean install? I did a clean install without a problem. Just use Ethernet to get the broadcom driver.

Hi! I got the problem after an update of Lucid, so I did a new install from my cd 10.4.2 that I already use (so it is good). The sound works. I run the update, and after I have mo more sound. I did the same thing with an aspire one without problem. I tried to boot with the kernel "n-1", same problem so I think it's due to an update of ubuntu. I got the broadcom driver from Ethernet. I read somewhere somebody having the same issue. Thanks for your answer.

I lost sound a couple days ago after installing the latest batch of updates to 10.04. I followed the directions at this link (adding the extra line at the bottom of that file) and now I have sound again.

(sorry can't post direct links)
coolgeex.com/dell-mini-how-to-enable-sound-after-ubuntu-9-10-upgrade/

It didn't work the first time but then I noticed down in the comments the file has a slightly different name so the real command is:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

...and add this at the bottom of the file:

options snd-hda-intel model=dell

Thanks a lot, now it works! Therefore there is no sound when booting (drum roll) ...not important
