Don, probably doesn't apply to you since you say Ubuntu reports that it can "see" your wireless network, but you may want to check that WLAN is "Enabled" in BIOS. I had a random reset in BIOS to "disabled" when upgrading Ubuntu, and when trial installing Kubuntu as well. I hadn't been in the BIOS, but the change somehow appatrntly happened on two occasions.

I was able to install the corrrect packages via wired connecgtion, but still couldn't detect networks in Network Manager. I was able to manually enter the SSID and password, system would say it connected, but no internet and no ping. Turned out that WLAN was "disabled" in BIOS when I checked it after all else failed. I enabled it, rebooted, and all was good. Just a thought.

Thanks, I tried adjusting the BIOS, no luck.

The wireless system reports that it is connected, but I cannot send IP traffic, and I don't have a valid IP assigned through the wireless. (checked through ifconfig)
