Lightbulb 10.6.3 install and upgrade to 10.6.7 - 04-04-2011, 07:32 AM

I have a Dell Mini 10v and I installed OS X 10.6.3 from the retail DVD using Oscar's tutorial, OS X 10.6.3 Retail DVD-->USB no MAC; A GUIDE.

I am currently running 10.6.3 and netbookinstaller 0.8.4RCI.

I want to upgrade to 10.6.7!

I tried to upgrade a couple days ago but some of my hardware such as wi-fi and ethernet were not recognized. I have not seen a clear and 100% successful post on how to upgrade from 10.6.3 to 10.6.7.

Can anyone give a step by step explanation of how to do it?

(1) once you install os x 10.6.3,(2) run netbookinstaller 0.8.5,(3) install the update,(4) reboot, and now you running 10.6.7.
works perfekt for me..!

Edit: sorry, install netbookmaker 0.8.5 pre first, then install the update.

Thanks for the advice!

Did you happen to install the plain update, the update combo, or from the software update under the "apple" menu?

Cool... I got it working.

Here's how it went down:
I downloaded and installed NBI 0.8.5pre and installed and ran
I downloaded the 10.6.7 combo update and installed and rebooted
!!TROUBLE!! Black Darwin screen...
Inserted my 0.8.4rc1 USB and booted from it.
Booted into OS X. No wi-fi, sound, etc... and re-ran 0.8.5pre
Rebooted
Everything is great now.

Now I am doing the other software updates. I'll post how that goes later.

P.S. Under 'About This Mac' it says I have a 2.05GHz processor. My processor should be 1.6GHz... is this a problem?

Alright, I hope that is it. I finished up all the latest updates with no problems.
I also installed NBI...51 because most other 10.6.7 users have done the same. But then later reinstalled 0.8.5pre.

I hope this thread helps anyone installing 10.6.3 and upgrading to 10.6.7.

P.S. Still working on figuring out the 2.05GHz processor

i was running 10.6.4. I ran the NBI 0.8.5pre, then ran Software Update, installed the 10.6.7 combo but now it wont boot. Upon the first reboot, i got the greyish apple screen with a picture of the hdd, and a backwards progress bar that said 'press a key to enter startup options' then it came up with tonnes of single user command line stuff. now upon reboot, after the dell logo (press F2 to setup etc), i just get a message that says unable to locate module /extra/modules/symbols.dylib

guessing what jhjhjh meant by "Inserted my 0.8.4rc1 USB and booted from it." i luckily still have the original external Snow Leopard drive that used when i created this thing, and so i plugged that in, and turned on the Dell. I hit F12, and selected USB storage from the top of the list, and then was greeted with a familiar mac startup selector, where i could pick Mac OS X Install DVD or Macintosh HD. I picked Macintosh HD and it booted up in 10.6.7, everything looking fine apart from 'no Airport Card installed' (sound worked fine), and the fact that i had to have the drive attached for it to boot. I reran NBI 0.8.5pre and pointed it to Macintosh HD and hit Prepare Drive, and after 5 mins (takes ages on Generating Extension Caches) i ejected the USB drive and rebooted. I got the backwards progress bar again, but didn't hit anything and it booted up fine, sound, airport, everything.

Apologies if this is a boring read for some, but i hope it was useful to some people, i know i panic when i have to do things like this (especially as it's actually my mum's computer!)

i think the moral of the story is don't bother updating if you erased your original install USB drive. oh and mine still says 1.6GHz processor, not 2.05 like some

... after I installed the updates, OSX would not boot up. I shut down the machine, inserted the 0.8.4rc1 USB, powered on, booted to USB, and I could get back into OSX.

I agree with biologei... the App Store makes it worthwhile to update.

Also, I checked bios earlier and it said my processor is 1.6GHz... but OSX is still saying 2.05GHz... the best advice I've read so far is that if it is not overheating, don't worry about it. If anyone has a technical explanation, I would definitely like to hear it!

EDIT: I forgot to mention to meathane that your sound will not always work. All you have to do is reboot. Actually, sometimes my keyboard and trackpad won't work at start up and a reboot fixes it.

scratch that, i realisedi have no sound. tried running NBI..351 but it took forever, so i had to force quit it, rebooted, and now i'm back where i started. will just boot from the original drive and rerun NBI0.8.5pre, but i'm guessing i'll have no sound.

does anyone have a definitive fix for users that have everything working under 10.6.7, apart from sound?

EDIT: i do have sound!? it's a bit confusing. having said that, it used to be random as to wether it had sound or not in 10.6.4, so i'm not sure what's going on

Disregard this question. I installed the NetbookInstaller 0.8.5pre.app and it seems to have resolved the issue. I will just go back to lurking now. :P~~

---------------

Hello everyone. I recently upgraded my 10.6 install to 10.6.4 and then 10.6.7. Everything boots and seems to work fine except for the App Store. I can log into the iTune store just fine, but when trying to log into the App Store it just keeps telling me 'Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance'. Login information works fine on my official Mac.

Is this a known issue with these installs at all? I was not able to find anything on it searching for 'app store'.

Thanks for any information in advance.

Cheers.

Same here - Dell Mini 9, u/g to 10.6.7.

Frustrating, as the network/internet works fine, and i've tried all the solutions that work for most others.

I only upgraded for the damned app store.
