Default SpeedStep in Snow Leopard with NBI 0.83 RC3 possible? - 10-15-2009, 01:29 AM

Been trying for the last couple of days several methods (Voodoopower.kext, smbios.plist...) but none seem to work for Snow Leopard on my mini 9. Anybody succesfully having SpeedStep activated can post a step by step guide?

Download voodoopowermini.kext, unzip and place the file in /extra/mini9ext and then run the updateextra application found in /extra. Reboot.

Here's what worked for me:
  • Optional, for success control:
    • Download CPU-i from this post at insanelymac.com. You must have an account, it becomes not active until you confirm with the emailed link.
    • Unzip and copy out of disk image as needed.
    • Start it and note the frequency in the status tab.
  • Download VoodooPowerMini Kext from superhai.com
  • Download Kext Helper from cheetha.net
  • Unzip and/or copy out of disk image both as needed.
  • Drag the kext into Kext Helper Window, type an admin password.
  • Optional: Check "Advanced" to get an impression of what is being done.
  • Click "Easy Install".
  • A dialog tells you about success. Reboot.
  • Optional: Start CPU-i and note the frequency. Watch it while giving your Mini some work.

Report your success, maybe it's worth a sticky.

Worked great for me. Speedstep now seems to be working fine, and temperatures are cooler. Thanks!

Like Kext Helper - It's better then playing in /Extra I think as I like to leave that domain to NBI as much as possible.

At 44yo w/ partial hearing loss from various sources take this for what it's worth. Nope.

It is hidden... You have 2 option run NBI and remove check from hide netboot files

or

go to and select "go to folder". In the field type : /volumes/YOUR_MAC_HD_NAME/extra and then click on GO

The extra folder will appear on your Mac HD
