Unhappy Dell inspiron 1012 help.... - 07-30-2011, 04:51 AM

I am in need of help for a noob.... My mini has been broken for a while so i just put it in my droor and its been their for about a month so tonight i turned it on and before about a week ago i turned it on and it said no operating system found that was the problem so i was going to take it in to reinstall windows starter but thats 50 bucks a 13 year old doesnt have well i have the operating system disk and i want to put it on a flash drive and boot the disk from the thumbdrive thank you if you could help and i just turned on my computer and it letme load windows and it stayed at a black screen after booting and with the mouse icon so i cntrl alt delete nothing i have tried pushing f8 or whatever it is. ive restarted my computer once and it worked like 2 months ago but then my computer crashed like 1 day after so... Here i am 2 months later wanting to fix my laptop.... Please helpp....

there should be a restore partition on the hard drive

PS. it's spelled 'Drawer' NOT Droor...and mean There NOT their......your teachers would be very upset with you

Sorry lol its summer i dont really care about that stuff till about a couple weeks till school starts>:0 so im guesing im going to need word and powerpoint for highschool so i wnated to fix my laptop...
How do i access the restore partion on my harddrive?

Try pressing CTRL+F11 at the Dell BIOS splash screen - this should boot the recovery image and allow you to restore back to factory settings which I am guessing is Windows 7 Starter

NOTE: This will ONLY work if you have not formatted your drive

What does that mean^ ive restored my computer once doing the fn + f8 before

I tried doing that and it just make the laptop beep.... How do i put the recovery disk onto a thumb drive and boot it from their?

well, if you did the fn+f8 before why cant you do it now?

you can also do this:

Download this utility.....I used it many times and hundreds (over 400 at last count) have also

make sure 1st that you prep the USB drive..theres an option to format it (RMPrepUSB) on the 1st screen and make sure you check off the Win 7 then on the 2nd screen use the NTFS option on the left
