Default How to do clean windows 7 install on mini 10v - 12-05-2012, 12:35 PM

Hi all,

I currently have a mini 10v that was hackintoshed but now will not boot due to unknown issues. Sometimes it boots up, sometimes it doesn't.

It has no other OS on it.

I also have a macbook running mountain lion. All I am looking to do is to create a windows 7 usb on mountain lion that will boot on the mini 10v.

I have a windows 7 .img file, a windows 7 .iso file, and would like to know if anyone has any idea on how I can create a usb that boots this stuff.

I do not own a computer that runs windows at all.

Thanks,

Jason

Do you have a valid license to install Windows 7 on the Mini?

I don't really understand the question. My girlfriend had a windows 7 install disc that I copied as an iso file. Does that help?

You must buy a copy of OSX or Win 7 to install on your Mini 10. If you want free, look at Linux.

Default linux - 12-05-2012, 02:28 PM

I downloaded linux, and ubuntu and 1 or 2 other versions. Created a usb of it via unetbootin on my mac, and tried that. Will not install.

It just goes to a screen with my two partitions on (osx and windows). OSX won't load, and the windows partition is empty.

I really don't know what to do. I want this computer to be usable!

I don't know why the USB install won't work - when i go into the boot settings the usb storage has an exclamation mark next to it when I select it. If i try and boot from it, it doesn't even appear in the list.

Please help! I need help asap!

thank you,

Jason

also, I keep getting "mach kernel error 10.5.6."

I tried recovery=y but I can't even get a screen up to type that into.

What version of Ubuntu did your try? I use 10.04 & 12.04 & recommend 12.04. What exactly did your Mini 10 do when it booted into from the USB flash drive with Ubuntu on it?

If you know anyone that uses Windows, I would use that (or Ubuntu of course) to create the USB flash drive. Their instruction are much easier to follow. OSX would not be my choice - it is easy to make an error making..

If you want to install OSX or Win 7, I'll stop here as I have not installed either from a USB flash drive.

It helps to confirm that you don't have a legal license to install Windows 7 on another system. I will also comment that install discs that come with a PC are often not usable on different brands or models.
