Default Just Orderd M101Z !!! - 03-02-2011, 12:27 AM

Hello!
Long time Dell user here (since 2003). Had a Dell Mini 9 and joined this forum had it for about 1 year and then sold it for a Mini 10v, hung onto it for 4 - 5 months until the Mini 1012 came out and sold the 10v and snagged a Mini 1012 in March 2010.
I Just sold the Mini 1012 about 2 weeks ago and orderd the HP DM1Z when HP had them for $350 with coupons.
I got the DM1Z yesterday and sent it back today... What a total POS. The Screen on that laptop is like looking at a TFT Passive Matrix screen from a 90's laptop. Contrast was bad, viewing angles bad and colors were not vivid at all. Add to it crappy build quality and it was an easy decision. IT WENT BACK! I am amazed at how bad it was.

I was originally holding out to see if Dell was going to release a AMD Fusion based 11.6" laptop but there are not even rumors about it so I got fed up waiting.
Found a $50.00 of coupon for the outlet from the Dell Facebook page and found a M101Z configured how I wanted it for $439.99 - $50.00 coupon so I ordred it. Shipped out today!
Specs:
Dual Core Neo 1.3GHZ
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB 7200RPM HDD
802.11B/G/N + Bluetooth
1.3MP Webcam
Tomato RED Color + JAX Pattern

Have a 128GB Kingston SSD V-NOW to throw in there + 8GB DDR3 Laptop RAM and this will be a nice little upgrade from my last Mini 1012.

And since I did this I am sure Dell will release their Fusion line tomorrow.
Wanted to say hello. Have read EVERY post in this M101z section and the information here was very helpful with my purchasing decision.

Thanks to all and hello!

Glad to hear you are liking your M101Z. Mine will get here tomorrow according to Fedex.

Dell better make their Fusion system better than HP did! Knowing Dell I am sure it will be just fine.

Bad News, Good News..

My M101Z Arrived yesterday afternoon. Right out of the box I noticed a few scuffs and nicks on the case which I was not happy about. But what's crazy is that the touchpad did not work at all. So, I popped the keyboard to check the connector and I guess Dell thinks that putting masking & electrical tape over the touchpad connector to fix a broken motherboard connector is good enough to call it fixed and label it as Certified Referbuished and resell it. I promptly called dell and sent it back that afternoon. (They were really good about it too. Paid shipping back, friendly, etc).
OK so for the good news. I saw a 15% off coupon for dell outlet laptops and then found another M101Z configured how I wanted it for $70 less than what the first one was + $15% off on top of that. So I just snagged it. Hopefully my luck with this one is better than the first! If not its going back too!

And now the 2nd Outlet arrived today.. its in awful shape. Scratches on the bezel & the lid. Its going back to Dell in the morning. I am done with the outlet!
Will hang tight until Dell gets their stuff together and releases their Fusion based laptop..

Sometimes I don't understand Dell why they gamble and sell scratched up net/note -book in their outlet. I think it will be better and cost them less in the long run if they refurbished it totally by replacing the bezel AND/ or back cover before putting it in their inventory.

I really like the quality of Dell small notebook innards but not the the design and the plastic casing specially the very shiny front bezel. You cannot use your cotton cloth to wipe the dirt out because it will definitely leave some mark.

Also just an FYI - An ultra portable hackintosh-ABLE NOTEbook (Thin, light, 11.6 11Z or 12.1 screen, chicklet keyboard and if possible, make the thickness even and not wedge shaped like an airplane wing) would get my pocketbook open.

I agree. Its most likely because Dell outsurced their Referbisment & Outlet Sales to a company called Genco in TN. Seems like they just reimage the hard drives and sell them again. Not much actually happens for the referbisment process. If they miss something I am sure they figure Dell support will deal with it when the customer calls to complain of a problem.
Dell really needs to get control of this process, its horrible for their image / brand reputation.
