![]() Well, lastest in my story is... the crucial memory did not work either. it appeared to work and then computer started shutting off intermittently. Spent 2 hrs on phone with dell and he had me put the old memory in and the computer appears to work fine so far. Also interestingly enough the manager informed me that Dell does not currently offer a compatible memory upgrade for the 1018. So after they sent me 3 that didn't work I finally get someone sho says they don't offer one. So has anybody been successful in the upgrade? If so what did you use? Did it really improve the speed?

![]() Howdy folks. I'm reading through all the posts and unfortunately have the same problem with the black screen. I bought the Crucial memory (which seems to have fixed most everyone else's issue) but so far no luck. Having worked on PC's for a while, when a system doesn't boot up even to through the POST process, it could be a number of other things besides just the RAM. I'm curious if anyone has ever resolved this by something other than just changing the RAM? Would the same thing happen if one of ribbon cables wasn't reconnected properly? If that were the case then the problem could have been unknowingly corrected when the original RAM or a new, different RAM chip was installed. I found that my keyboard cable clip had come loose after my first attempt. I fixed that but it didn't change or fix the problem of a black screen at power on. I'm going to keep checking that everything is seated properly but thought I'd post the question here in case someone has resolved the problem some other way. Thanks.
---------- Post added at 03:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 AM ---------- Quick update - I went back and reseated the RAM as well as the cables and it powered up fine when I tried again. I noticed again that the keyboard ribbon cable didn't seem to connect as well as it needed to. Using my plastic scribe tool, I pushed the ribbon cable clip from the middle instead of back and forth on either end of the clip. Once it looked like it was seated properly I moved on with the reassembly. I can't guarantee that fixing the ribbon cable fixed the overall problem but I figured I'd share in case someone else comes across this problem. Thanks |

![]() Hi guys,
I recently bought a dell mini 1018 for my gf which arrive a few days before Christmas. Anyway I been reading a lot and so far have not seen any other ram then one from Crucial. Would like to know if anyone here successfully used another brand then Crucial to upgrade the lappy? I don't know why does the setup guide book says it support up to 2gb with PC3-10600 (DDR3 1333 MHz) SODIMM but from what I see, everyone here have wasted some money buying a ram that would not work on this lappy. Would like to know as I am not sure how long it would take for my order to reach East Malaysia not to mention warranty issue and custom tax or worst being damage as how my lappy arrive with a cracked lcd. This topic not stick? ![]() |
