Default What size RunCore drive did you get? - 03-01-2009, 02:57 AM

Hi guys - noob to the forums!

Just curious to see what the majority of you went ahead and installed!

I want to place OSX onboard with Office - just curious if I'm going to be cramped with 32... the poll may peer pressure me to go for bigger!

Thanks!

You would be cramped with a 16GB. I was running OS X along with an XP/Office 2007 virtual machine under Parallels and still had over a gig free.

I have a 32GB runcore with office2008, the standard OSX install and a few other applications (firefox, adium, etc.) installed. With xslimmer run, I've still got more than 1/2 of my drive free:

traitor:/ root# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/disk0s2 30Gi 10Gi 19Gi 36% /
devfs 103Ki 103Ki 0Bi 100% /dev
fdesc 1.0Ki 1.0Ki 0Bi 100% /dev
map -hosts 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% /net
map auto_home 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% /home
traitor:/ root#

I'm very happy with the size.

I got the 32GB RunCore for four reasons:

- It was $100 cheaper than the 64GB RunCore and the speed is the same.
- I was kind of OK with the stock 16GB so I figured 32GB would be a smart choice.
- More than enough space to run Windows XP SP-3 with full updates, Office 2007 SP-1 with full updates, Firefox, VMware Player, a couple of additional tools, and still have around 20GB free.
- I have a 16GB SDHC Class 6 for storing all my documents, music, images, videos, etc. so getting more than a 32GB SSD for my secondary system was an overkill and a way to throw away $100 just because.....

Very happy with my choice....

MY VOSTRO A90: Cherry Red Lid, Kingston HyperX 2GB RAM CAS 3, RunCore 64GB SSD, 16GB SDHC Class 6, Bluetooth, 1.3MP Webcam, Intel 3945abg WiFi Card, WinXP Home SP3, BIOS A06

Every time I upgrade, I always end up regretting my decision to not go for the bigger upgrade. This time, I decided to splurge, since the 64GB Runcore < 2 x 32GB.

My Mini now has a larger drive than the laptop it replaced.

I have a 32 runcore, but decided I want XP, office and about 20 ripped dvds, also some nice old games, so I got a 64GB on the way

My Mini originally came with 16 GB, but I upgraded to the Runcore 32 GB because I wanted to install Vista...and have enough breathing room for other programs. I'm also using a 16 GB SDHC card for my documents, images, music, etc.

Awesome! These are the exact responses I wanted to read! Thanks for all the great feedback of what drive, what was installed, reason for choice, and how much remaining space! Perfect!

I have been debating this myself. I just ordered the base model for my wife as an anniversary present, and can't decide on the size. I am thinking 32 gig and installing OSX.

Slightly off topic, is mydigitaldiscount the only place in the US to get the runcore drives? I am just impatient and curious how long it usually takes to get the drive when its backordered.

EDIT: As so as to not derail this with another post, can you actually find the 16 GB drive anywhere? I would love to grab this and an external drive for media storage, but I can't find it anywhere.
