Default Mini 9 Display damaged, cheap replacements? - 04-21-2011, 06:38 PM

I have a Dell Mini 9 whose screen was damaged while in an airplane baggage compartment. The screen has a green blotch on the lower right corner with what looks like a crack that runs underneath the glass to the left of the screen. It does not affect any other functions other than looking unsightly. I have saved the repair guide for a display replacement, but to buy a new display is $55. Anyone have advice on where to get a cheap display? Is the procedure to complex? Is it worth it to repair? Thanks.

The display is straightforward to replace if you disassemble the lid right (Dell has the instructions). Whether it is worth it is up to you. You might check eBay for replacements, but that's not a popular size any more.

Thanks Steve. I have found a few guys on Ebay that sell the replacement for under $50 including shipping and new. It is for the Dell Inspirion 910, so that would be what I am looking for, I suppose.

Ok, so I replaced the screen. The resolution is not as clear as it used to be. Is there a way to adjust it to make it clearer or did I buy a cheaper screen?
Second is on the home screen the start menu bar is below screen view. How can I adjust the screen size to fit?
Otherwise the screen replacement was not too difficult and an interesting process.

Ok so now some the keyboard is not working either. I can punch some letters but not others.

I can get all the keys to work wiggling the keyboard ribbon around, but when I replace the key board certain keys do not work.

You probably have the wrong resolution set. Should be 1024x600.

You may not have locked the keyboard ribbon cable into place properly - unlock the connector, remove the ribbon, then reinsert the ribbon making sure it is fully seated and then engage the lock.

I've tried reseating the ribbon all day long, no luck. I tried selecting the resolution you mentioned but am unable. I can only get 1024x768 through Display Properties-Settings

Then you need to install the correct driver.
