how tough is gorilla glass? well, it didn't survive a ~20 foot drop onto a concrete wall on Monday as it fell out my pocket whilst I was painting on the roof of my house... Star crack in two places and runs out across width and lenth of the screen

The phone is working but has had a few intermittant restarts since so I suspect its damaged the internal board as well

Thanks goodness for insurance(which weirdly I dont normally buy for phones but it was one of the benefits of my Additions Plus Bank account!!!!!!)

It's amazing that the phone works at all.

Streaks are heavy, mainly due to the battery weight.

Where I bought mine, in Sydney, they had all phones attached to a display panel by cables, and the Streak was working via the cable.

I couldn't believe how light the device was.

And I was surprised how heavy the battery made it, when I got it home.

Although I took up insurance with the only Telco dealing Dell Streaks, the excess is $250.

So, I definitely don't want to drop mine.

With an excess of AUD 250 I doubt that the insurance is worth getting from a cost-effectiveness viewpoint...

Insurance have decided that they are going to try and repair it so I have to send it off, Back to my reliable old Nokia e90 for a week or two then, this will be an interesting experiment!

just fixed mine myself. Bought a new screen off ebay and took it apart and put it back together.

i have broken the lcd before but not the gorilla glass. a 20' drop would destroy almost any phone. excet the old yellow nextell, i dropped one from 80"off of a scaffold found the the battery and the battery cover put it all together and it worked flawlessly

StreakDroid FTW

SLA is 10 days so hopefully I should have it back by weekend, its been quite interesting using my old e90 which I'll post my observations in a new thread.

I was surprised that it worked at all as well, I was even more surprised that they wanted to repair it!

Australian, you think the battery makes it heavy? Add an Otterbox (Commuter) to it. The extra two ounces does make a difference. Though not as much of a difference as the Otterbox Defender case would.

well, they have after 2 and a bit weeks decided it is beyond economical repair so are sending me a new one out. I'll update as to which version of OS it comes with when it arrives.
