I recently had to replace my motherboard, hard drive on my granddaughters mini due to a water spillage,have everything back in but keep getting Boot mgr missing on a black screen no matter what I try I get same results, tried using a windows 7 install disk on an external cd Rom but to no avail, also tried usb stick still no luck searched sites but everything I try nothing works cant get past black screen also says to use control alt. delete but nothing happens any suggestions. It is a dell mini1012 with windows 7 or was. mother board was same as original one hard drive is a Toshiba 320 mb. New parts for both. it shows in setup that the new hard drive installed did a diagnostics test says everything ok, try to install windows 7,says Boot Mgr missing tried to download to fix this but to no Advil, tried to boot with usb and external cd-Rom, if I put old HD in it tries to load to point of load drivers and can't find signed drivers, once again I downloaded drivers from DELL but doesn't work, I'm about ready to throw it into snowbank, but now I'm mad and determined to get it to work with a little help.When I try to load on HD it says no OS found

Does your new HD show in the BIOS?

You might get your granddaughter a 'Tommy Tipper' cup to prevent those spills

Yes HD shows in bios.

Finally got a install screen but now cant get drivers to load?

Are you loading them from the external CD & are you selecting it as the boot device?

Hmmmmm. This stinks.

I just dug my Win 7 Family Pack out, since Win 7 is on a bootable disk. It is on a DVD, not a CD so your external CD ROM is never going to be able to read it.

Have you considered Ubuntu? OK, next choice


I'll go look & see if there is a way to make a Win 7 bootable USB flash drive. While it is really easy in Ubuntu, I'm not sure how to do it in Win 7. You do have to select the USB as the boot device on start up for it to work. Maybe there is something in our Win 7 forum about it, back later.
