Question Overheating unrelated to CPU - 06-10-2014, 06:58 AM

So i've upgraded my mini 9 to 2gb of ram and a runcore 32gb ssd and it was fine for a long while, but to be fair it's been a very long time since it was my daily driver, now however i start to use it again and find its overheating, but it's not the cpu, the cpu temps MAX are 50c after some tweaking to the pads (aka removing them and replacing with thick thermal paste, also cutting out a section of the plastic shielding on the keyboard itself and reusing the pads to connect the heat spreader to my keyboard chassis, again all the test show max temps of 50c after prime95) BUT the base of the unit right above the ssd, ram, and wireless card is very hot, its been the hottest part of the unit since i got it, i was just running updates to a fresh win8 install (just wanted to see how it handles it) and i watched it blue screen and reboot saying no boot drive, basically what i'm thinking is the ssd is overheating and causing the crash, it's done it 3 times now but the last one was the first time i saw it, the others i just came back to it and seeing the no boot device. it hasn't had that problem when i have it upside down though. it's by far not a daily driver for me anymore so i'm willing to experiment a bit, any ideas on how to minimize the heat?

TLDR: a lot of heat not from the cpu, most likely ssd
any ideas on how to minimize the heat?
