I know you said your bandwidth was poor, but if anyone else reads this, I would recommend downloading the netbook remix for the Mini, rather than the standard Ubuntu.

It comes as a USB writable...

What is a 2100?

It appears you have created a "limited" user. Why? The default initial user should have "sudo" (or administrator) permissions.

Network manager is the default wifi...

Unusual.... It is the same audio chipset, but functions differently.

As for the webcam, mine appears to work out-of-the-box on my Mini 9 with 9.04NBR, although I haven't used it other than to mess...

Not sure cellphones will like multiple partitions on microSD cards, but can't hurt to try.

You will need a minimum of 4-5GB ext2/3 (I would suggest ext3) for Ubuntu, and probably FAT32 for the...

No.

But I do think 9.04NBR is better. I installed it about 3 weeks ago on my Mini 9, and haven't looked back. It is particularly good if you have a 4GB SD Mini, since it only requires 3GB to...

Re: how many of you are going to upgrade to jaunty?

I intend to upgrade my laptop, and think it would be nice to run the same version on my Mini too (my laptop also currently sports 8.04 Hardy).

Provisional reports sound promising with the Mini /...

Re: update manager problems?

Post contents of /etc/apt/sources.list here. You need to remove the CD-ROM from the list (put a # in front of it).

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get...

Re: Checking out my system specs...

That is about right. The OS takes 3.5GB-ish.

I invested in an SDHC card (£10 for 8GB), reformatted as ext2, and just created symlinks from ~/ to folders in there.

The end result is like...

Re: can't get Evolution to fit on my screen

Did your Mini come with Ubuntu pre-installed? If not, which version are you running?

Have you tweaked it all all?

The behaviour you describe should not happen. Clicking on the screen never...

Re: Update manager and "cant be authenticated" message

Re: can't get Evolution to fit on my screen

Are you running the default Ubuntu, or have you upgraded?

The default appears to work OK. I have had very minor issues with occasional settings pages, but the applications all fit fine.

Re: Update manager and "cant be authenticated" message

In Software Sources, go to the Authentication tab.

What do you have listed there? Those software updates should not give you that warning. It appears you have removed the default Authentication...

Re: newbie w32 codecs question ?

I am not sure what you are talking about. The NM finds all wifi access spots just fine. All it takes is one click.

Re: How-to help to clone SSD to bigger SSD?

partimage is designed to clone and restore partitions.

I have never used it on my Mini, but no reason it shouldn't work.

The pre-installed Dell Ubuntu has most codecs included.

Re: Can't run LiveCD or install Ubuntu

Wubi "installs" Ubuntu within Windows; it is not strictly a dual-boot setup.

It is reasonable if you just want to try Ubuntu out. However, it does appear to have some idiosyncrasies (judging by...

Re: will Ubuntu work with 128k memory + 8g HD ?

As stated, this is likely to be 128MB RAM, since no laptops with 128kB were ever made, as far as I know.

For wifi and browsing, any Linux version will work fine.

Ubuntu will certainly do this...

Re: Can't run LiveCD or install Ubuntu

Common denominator is the external CD drive. Perhaps it is recognised by BIOS, but not by the Linux kernel.

Try installing from USB flash drive.
