Having just gone through an SSD failure on my Mini 9, you are absolutely correct in thinking you should go back to Ubuntu before returning it. They won't even provide phone support for HARDWARE...

Downloaded DellEFI 1.1b4, booted off the CD with the -f option, ran 1.1b4, reinstalled the partition, files, and chose the options I wanted, rebooted and everything was back to good.

No, my understanding is that he DVD drive for the AIR has firmware on it that ties it specifically to the AIR, making it not functional on other machines.
