You're right, I happened to own 3.X actually, so that's probably why it worked. I prefer VMWare though, far more stable under Snow Leo in my experience.

Parallels runs perfectly on my A90. As does VMWare Fusion. I primarily use my XP VM for the rare program that absolutely needs windows, it's just more convenient than a full partition.

Wow, I didn't see that you had 1GB of RAM, that's definitely why 7 is slow. It's basically unusable with less than 1.5, in my experience.

I think it's just some tuning Dell does, because my RTM copy from Technet had the exact same symptoms until I applied a few registry tweaks. This got it to being about the same as the Dell OEM copy.

If you're going from Vista to 7, there's only one thing you need to keep in mind. Make sure you are upgrading to a comparable version, like you have to go from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium....
